This Situation is Unfair and Wrong!
How it affects our Military Families:
- The family lives in the same home as before and they have NO MORE MONEY in their pocket than before. The only difference is that their housing is PRIVATELY MANAGED instead of being managed by the Military. This management switch was done to enrich the lives of military families by giving them better homes and communities in which to live. However, in this particular instance it actually hurts the family by no fault of their own because their rent is now considered income and disqualifies them from the pre schools they once qualified for.
- This service has been taken away from them.
- Some of these pre schools will be closed if the state doesn't change their policy.
- We are talking about military families that serve our country and move when ever they are told to move. They do not have a lot of choices. They live a difficult lifestyle and now are being deployed even longer...up to 18 months in some instances. They are a special population and all Americans should work to support them in this difficult time of war.
- We do not need money. We just need your time. Contact Jack O’Connell, the Superintendent of Public Instruction and tell him to do the right thing for our military families.
Access to a quality preschool education can have a considerable and lasting impact on any child's academic career. Military children move an average of seven times between kindergarten and high school graduation. Fortunately, preschool programs can provide the foundation they need to succeed in school despite having transitional lives.
