RE: Exclude Military BAH for Preschool Services
Dear Superintendent O’Connell,
(Possible Writing Points for Military Parent Letter:
Introduce yourself and describe your situation. Are you single or married? Describe your family circumstances. Who is in the military? What is your/his or her rank and role? Have you or your husband or wife been deployed overseas? Where, how long and what was the role?
How many children do you have? How many of them are preschool age? What are their names? Are they enrolled in a subsidized preschool? If so, describe them and their preschool environment.
How many times have you moved? What are the strains that you experience as a family? What is the impact of family mobility and deployment on your children? How does preschool benefit them?
Explain how the military addresses the issue of housing. State that your children were eligible for preschool when you lived in military housing. State that your children lost or will lose eligibility when you moved or when you will move into privatized housing. State that nothing else changed. State that you cannot afford the full cost of preschool given your salary. Explain the impact on your children of leaving your preschool.
Ask for support for military families, particularly in a time of war.
Ask him to take the action of excluding the BAH from the income of individuals serving in the Armed Services for purposes of determining eligibility for state preschool services.
Sincerely,
