Re: AB 343, Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunities for Military Children (Saldaña)-Support

Dear Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Saldaña:

(Organization name & information). would like to inform you of our support for the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunities for Military Children.

There are approximately 60,000 school-age military dependents between the ages of 5 and 18 years old in California. Many face significant challenges when dealing with enrollment, eligibility, placement, and graduation of their children. Because of the high rotation of military personnel, school-age military dependents attend as many as seven schools. As a result, many dependents are often inadvertently penalized by varying school requirements.

Fortunately, the Department of Defense has worked with the Council of State Governments' National Center for Interstate Compacts to help solve this issue by developing an interstate compact. However, California and each participating state must adopt the Compact through legislation.

AB 343 would join California with other states in the nation to create the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, which will facilitate the educational placement and advancement of the children of military families and help remove barriers to their educational success.

For the above reasons, (Organization) supports AB 343 and urges your 'aye' vote. If you have any further questions, please contact.
